Choosing the right size luxury dog crate can feel overwhelming—especially with so many breeds, crate types, and features out there. Whether you’re shopping for a puppy or a full-grown companion, the right crate should be a safe, comfortable space that feels like home—not a punishment, and not a tight squeeze.
At Dog & Crate, we build crates designed to blend into your home and support your dog’s well-being. This guide breaks down how to choose the right size crate, including real measurements and breed examples to help you find the perfect fit.
Why Size Matters
A crate that's too small can be uncomfortable or even unsafe. One that's too big can lead to accidents and anxiety. The goal is a just-right space where your dog can:
-
Stand up without crouching
-
Turn around comfortably
-
Lie down and stretch out
How to Measure Your Dog for a Crate
Before picking a crate, measure your dog in two ways:
-
Length: Measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail (not the tip), then add 2–4 inches.
-
Height: Measure from the floor to the top of the head or ears when sitting, then add 2–4 inches.
Use these numbers as your minimum interior dimensions.
